Trinity Hall June Event '24
Project type
June Event
Date
20th June 2024
Location
Trinity Hall, Cambridge
June Events are difficult to execute well. Guests expect a May Ball experience for a fraction of the cost, making committee budgets incredibly tight. Trinity Hall lies along the river Cam, and is an extremely compact college, providing a unique challenge for any production. Sound can easily bleed between courts, spoiling the guest experience and making compliance with council noise restrictions even more difficult. With the main and ambient stages situated adjacent to each other on the riverside, we deployed our Danley audio system with industry-leading directivity to minimise noise bleed between stages, and pollution to the surrounding city.
The sound in the North and Front court is kept contained by the high walls of the 14th Century buildings. Here, we deployed our more budget-conscious offerings from French manufacturer NEXO. With excellent sound quality and their patented asymmetric horn, they maintain clarity from the front to the back of the audience.
For the DJ stage, the committee wanted to provide an alternative experience. We advised that this would best be located in the Oula, with its underground location keeping sound contained. We were able to use the college’s existing equipment to run this stage at next to no cost to the committee.
The committee tasked us with delivering their vision of “The 13th hour”. For this, we worked with artists on the committee to project their art onto the side of the front court. By utilising the latest Panasonic 12k projectors and a large telephoto lens, we were able to map the building from the other side of the court. This required no additional scaffolding, utilising the existing architecture to create the illusion of a projection from nowhere. Observant guests could witness the projection evolving throughout the night, creating an air of mystery and novelty through the night.
